The Heart of Darkness (21.12.21)

The Heart of Darkness

Set in the heart of the Dark Peak on the darkest day – Winter Solstice. This is a chance to savour some vigorous exercise and moody views before the Christmas indulgences kick in.

Starting from Edale Car Park at 8.03am (sunrise) we will endeavour to tackle the Edale Skyline by 3.53pm (sunset) taking 7 hours and 50 minutes or less to complete this memorable route.

A scenic 21 mile circuit around Edale. The climb up to high terrain gives you expansive views across the valley and the surrounding counties.

Being fully guided means that no one has any need to worry about navigation. However everyone does need to be aware that it is a significant challenge in its own right and the addition of winter conditions could make it doubly so. Participants will need a responsible attitude when taking part in this event.

We commence from the main car park in Edale and once out of the village will begin ascending straight away. You will soon be warm and invigorated ready to tackle the challenge head on. Is it a run? Is it a walk? It’s a combination of both, think of it as speed sightseeing! There will likely be a group split to allow for people wanting to move faster the chance to run ahead – whilst the rest will simply aim to get around within 8 hours.

Safety – a list of kit required and further info is found on the entry link. People need to ensure that they are adequately equipped for the event.

Note, the weather conditions may see us have to make route amendments depending on ground conditions nearer the time. We will endeavour to complete the full skyline, but will make detours if some of the more exposed parts are icy.
